I (Lexi Cross, co-founder of ShoesOf) met Sophia Li (@sophfei) through HER, a women’s group with a presence in NYC and other cities around the world. Sophia Li is not only the voice of HER but is a journalist, director and creative consultant who focuses on authentic, innovative digital and social storytelling for editorial, brands and names. She prefers to commute by bike and her high-school superlatives (most talkative, best dressed, worst driver) still rings true today. We had a chance to document five of Sophia’s favorite looks, from the ground up.
“These are totally my favorite mules. They are Manolo Blahnik. The Hangisi style. Everyone recognizes this shoe because it’s the shoe that Carrie Bradshaw wore when she got proposed to in Sex in the City except these are the mule version so they are way better… Sorry Carrie. I love to wear them with this sock.”
"The whole outfit is by Ji Oh. I love her! She is part of the CFDA Fashion Fund and has great, super well-tailored pieces. She’s very inspired by menswear, which I love. I’m also a fan of the two fur pockets because people are always intrigued by the pockets. They always want to pet me but they know it is inappropriate because it is in my boobage area…!"
“These wedges remind me of holiday in Europe with my best friend so they are always good vibes. They are a Spanish brand called Castañer and every cool European girl I know has a pair. All my Parisian friends wear them all the time. You go to Biarritz or Portugal and you put on your Castañer wedges and voila!… you are having your European holiday!”
"The vintage white slip I got at a store in Stockholm and the glasses…They are actually surfing or snowboarding glasses. I’ve had them for years and I wear them as normal sunglasses. I wear them everywhere and people either think I’m crazy or they love them."
“These shoes are Ferragamo. I love a good black strappy, chunky heeled shoe for the summer. You can elevate any look with that and it makes you elongated and put together. These are really comfortable because of the thick heel. Plus I love straps around the ankle for support…Health first!”
"I got these overalls in a vintage store in Tokyo and I was with my older sister. We both got a pair. I didn’t realize until I got home that the legs were uneven so one was five inches longer than the other which meant I had to chop it. So if you look really closely, one is machine chopped and one is chopped by me!"
“Oh these shoes have gotten me through a lot… We are best pals. They are actually exotic dancer shoes, no lie. Funny story about them… When I was working at Vogue I was doing red carpet events a lot so I was always on my feet and I needed something that was super comfortable but also a heel and our creative director suggested them and then our fashion market editor had them…so I wore her black pair all throughout Paris Fashion Week… and then I ordered the red pair because red is my favorite color. I wore them to the Met Gala… Kim Kardashian even told me she loved my shoes! I was like ‘wow they are $30 bucks from the exotic dancer website!’ So yea, they are great!”
"I paired the shoes with this suit to balance it out so it’s like… ‘hey, I’m serious, but I’m also fun.’ So if you look at my feet I have a sense of humor but if you look up here I am all business."
“Everyone has the white boots now but I love how these have this leather snakeskin detail. They are by an independent designer called LAX and I got them from Tictail which is an online boutique that sells independent designers from all over the world. I actually wore them on Halloween. I didn’t have an outfit so I was Psy from Oppan gangnam style. All I had to do was do the dance move and everyone would say ‘that’s amazing’! And I would say… ‘yes I know I’m sooo creative!’”
"This is my roll out of bed, look effortlessly put together yet casual within 10 minutes. I love a good classic striped button down so this Hellessy one has an over-the-top silhouette to it that I love pairing with a simple pair of denim."
